When something goes wrong, we’re quick to blame ourselves or others or God. We assume that trials must be punishments and we try to evaluate them to see whether they’re fair. Jesus shows us that punishment often isn’t the purpose at all. He points to God’s good purposes even in tragedy and shows us how to understand God’s working in our lives.
Painful experiences can fuel doubt about God and where we stand with Him. But God meets us in our questioning and can lead us to a place of hope and peace. This message looks at how God responded to Abraham’s doubts and shows us what we can do when circumstances overwhelm us.
Trials are an unavoidable part of life. But they’re all the more painful when we don’t see them coming. For God’s people, the Bible describes both salvation and suffering as gifts of a gracious God who loves us. Understanding God’s purpose in trials can give hope and strength in the face of our challenges.
When difficulties hit, it’s easy to blame God and ask why He allowed them. But it’s only as we start asking what His purposes in our suffering might be that we begin to grasp God’s good plan for us.
